Dr. Clifford E. Smith Jr. served as a Senior Planner and the City of Sarasota’s Historic Preservationist for 18 years.
During his tenure and thanks to his tireless efforts, Downtown Sarasota and Newtown were added to the National Register of Historic Places, over one hundred structures received local historic designation, and countless historic structures were saved. He is widely known and respected for his work to preserve our city’s history for future generations and will be greatly missed.
