Good morning everyone it’s Susan Phelps In Sarasota and today I brought a friend On this beautiful May Day down to the Sarasota Bay Park we’re looking at the Beach setup now at the end of The Mangrove Bayou walkway and you’ll notice That the vegetation has taken in well They planted vegetation out beyond the Barriers to mitigate any kind of erosion Storm water surge or whatever we’re Walking over here to the Ibis playground During the 10-day grand opening they had A contest to name these giant Ibis and The perfect pair of names came up one is Named Sarah and the other is named zota It’s a great little uh rubberized Platform for kids to plan and parents Can sit around in the adjoining areas That are set up for bunching their kids Walking down again to the along the Bayou on the mangrove Bay walkway which Is a cool rubberized sidewalk that is a Little less resistant on your feet for Runners We’re going to walk over this bridge That’s called The Bayou Bridge And we’re going to be able to see the Canal that is going to be uh that is Connected to the Kayak launch And then goes out to the Bay [Music] Kayak launches down at the end of That Canal there
And gives people an opportunity to Cruise by all the mangroves that are the Sustainable Water tree that we need in our waterways To help keep the water clean Walking along the other side of the Canal Continuing on the Bayou Mangrove Bayou Walkway to the right here you see the Nomo area that is planted with Florida Native butterfly plants to the right you See the lawn that is often used for yoga Tai Chi classes Etc Open to the public anything that goes on In this Park is open to the general Public and that’s what it’s for this Structure this uh Step um piece of Art who has been there for some time as Part of the van weasel They’ve been weasel being to the right There You can see the purple pier in the Foreground that’s been there for some Time it’s used for fishing so forth Beautiful scene out to the Bay And you can look across to see our Iconic Sarasota Bridge Down by the purple Pier On this point they’ve added some very Cool seating structures that are Sustainably built with I imagine steel And this composite wood that will last For a long time in the elements
Foreign [Music] Public seating structures And as we continue we’re really not on The manga Bayou walkway anymore we’re on A sidewalk that connects to uh 41 and the crosswalk at the 10th Street Roundabout over there is the 10th Street Launch and you can see from these maps That the overall plan for the Bay Park Is enormous it’s going to be I believe 52 53 Acres And this phase one Shows you what has been completed Currently so check it out the next time You come to Sarasota It is well worth the walk we’ll keep you Updated with Continued progress [Music]
