Spent a couple hours scouting the bay today to see how bad the red tide was in our area. It moves around daily but this gives a good sense of its coverage and level for such an unexpected time of year to see it at all.

Oh the red Tide’s really really freaking Bad For February So we’re gonna go document it I’m gonna Drop in the boat Hit some different areas of the bay and Channels and maybe even go out the Passes and just see How bad it is out there I’m getting Mixed reports Um A couple of the captains I know here Said I’ve never seen it in February like this And they’re Natives grown up here man so it’s like Just uh This isn’t normal some people want to Say it’s the hurricane the hurricane may Start some up but that wasn’t Put there by the hurricane Um I don’t know I don’t want to get into Pointing fingers right now but there’s There’s this is this is human error Making it worse and worse here for us on The Gulf Coast The southwest Florida specialty Let’s go see what’s out there I’m a boat just went in front of me and Caused much awake and now we see this [Music] Brown tea color and Bubbles everywhere I saw a couple of floaters

Haven’t gone farther than dead did Something I’m gonna bloated ass Can’t tell what it is What that was Nasty out here in the bay Foreign Bar now and um I didn’t even realize I cut this far up Uh I’m about to stop and check because I Had about ran right over it super Shallow there Um But No smell or sign of anything up here Honestly the water looks kind of clear Uh This area so I’ve heard that north of Steven’s Point was pretty good and I Think that’s still fairly accurate Um A lot of birds and life over here and The mangroves in fact I might go fish For a little bit before I caught the Past where I think it’s going to get Pretty depressing out there so I’m gonna go cast A little bit see if there’s any fish Eating this area All right We’re in the Whitfield area now you see A lot of faith in water here Um A lot of boys right here

[Music] All of my oyster beds so This place was kind of a safe haven last Time the red tie was nasty uh Prize for the stage one of the better Things This year as well we hope So anyway I’m gonna fish back here for a Little bit and then I’m gonna go hit the Passes where it’s probably really really Nasty Oh there we go there we go There’s a fish oh Holy Oh no just one I lost him It’s a nice fish Really nice fish What was it Oh there we go So Jack gotta be Gotta be Yeah because it let it go in there get My back and forth Yeah that’d be a Big Jack Fighting hard it could even be a little Jack These guys have more Muscle on them I swear Oh yeah definitely a jack Chunky one Tell my dude Had a bad fish Oh

Wrecked that thing Good good Kind of something trolling Thank you Well we’re heading out of the new pass Now Um I’m gonna go out a mile or so and see What’s home right out in front of the Shores here Um Once I started getting back into Sarasota Bay like south of Indian Beach Area the spell hit me again Um very light though not not super Strong but there was like no smell up Towards Long Bar and all that Um a lot of bullet up there too The smell here is a very distinct red Tide smell though it’s unmistakable Um So unfortunate But no dead fish yet over here at least Um All right head out in the past and see What’s going on outside the front of the Beaches [Music] Everyone [Music] As I’m getting closer to the pass all Right as I’m in the pasta I’m in the Middle of it here The smell kind of disappeared I saw some Floater in fact

Back there you can do the docks and But That was it so far which is Cool it’s good How’s the steak out here as I thought it Was gonna be [Music] Foreign [Applause] [Music] A lot more floaters a lot of dead fish Here Foreign Fish They have big sale cats You can kind of see a trail of Trail of death here That way Yeah a lot of Putters in here I mean This is where A lot of channels Collide you know Coming out of the skinny icw down there And then you got to pay it there and you Got big Puffs here it’s a lot of water’s Meat right here And um could just be kind of trapping This in this spot I’m not sure if that’s how it works Though or not But it’s gross that’s for sure Definitely nasty that’s a big old you Know something nice Nasty All right we’re gonna go out the pass

And see what’s up over there A lot more floaters down here by the Bridge right by the North Bridge Big old Are more cats over there there’s a whole Trail of Way more than these guys you can see a Lot of floaters along the wall over There Those are five little Bait fish with a Pins or something Something out here just breathing the in all relaxing I don’t understand A lot of bodies up here So big cat’s pretty nasty Well no dead Stokes your ranch yet but was gross over here Bodies of water Nasty all right I’m gonna go out outside Foreign Just outside the mouth big pass Well I don’t see as many floaters and it Ain’t stinking the water is like It’s got a brown tent to it all the way Out here it’s got the foamy Everywhere [Applause] Um so there’s definitely some red tide Here as it doesn’t look to be Choking levels at the mouth here Um Or maybe it is and just all that all This Putters have been washed in That we saw back in the inside there

Definitely a little stink A lot of on the beach As usual people in the water Disgusting I’ll never understand that All right There’s one dead guy out here I’m sure I could find some more if I Kept driving around Um it looks like a It’s like a Spanish Mac maybe oh no Ladyfish Oh God Please My own wake Um Yeah that thing’s been rotten for a Little while So I hope this concludes my Scouting today Um covering some good territory The summary seems to be that Um from the north Siesta Bridge all the Way out of big pass is really freaking Gross right now uh the water looks Brown Both directions so Um I definitely wouldn’t be swimming at Siesta right now From Um Like downtown area Ringling Bridge Um up to The Ringling Museum basically it is

Stinky but not near as much death just a Few floaters and the water is pretty Damn clear up there and then once you Get past Whitfield and get to the Long Bar area it is uh you can’t detect Anything it’s very clear there’s more Pleasures here too Um and then if you go out new pass it Wasn’t bad once you get out under the Bridge and start coming out it went bad So as soon as we concentrated around Siesta and um an inside big pass there So That’s today though it moves around a Lot that’s just where we’re at right now On February 26 or whatever Um I can only expect it’s going to get Worse as this water keeps warming up I Don’t think we have any more cold snaps Coming through We need a really strong winds for a few Days pushing it out the gulf would help Not feeling good about this year this is A bad start Head Start But we’ll just have to adjust Usually not in everywhere at once and Moves around man All right later
