Pros & Cons of Sarasota Florida [IS SARASOTA WORTH MOVING TO] Roaldo Percoco, January 6, 2024January 6, 2024 Thinking about Moving to Sarasota Florida? Is it Really Worth It? Like most things in life, there is usually an upside (pro) and downside (con) when it comes to different aspects of a city. Sarasota Florida is located about 1 hour South of Tampa Florida along the Southwest Florida Gulf Coast. Sarasota has been voted One of the Best Cities to Live In for the past few years with the World Renowned Siesta Key Beach, Active Outdoor Lifestyle, Neighborhoods to match every Lifestyle, and much more. I originally moved from Wisconsin a few years ago and didn’t know what to expect when I was coming to Sarasota since I have not lived there before for an extended period of time. However, I have come to enjoy Sarasota and what the local area has to offer. Over the past couple years, there have been some significant changes in both good ways and bad ways. Some people agree with the decisions while other people do not so lets break it down in this episode to see which side you are on. ————————— Noah Ward is a Licensed Florida Real Estate agent that specializes in New Construction and Real Estate Development. years some good some bad and Some things that some people like and Others other people just don't like the Changes that are happening with Sarasota So we will kick off this episode talking About the overall pros of living in Sarasota and so the first pro at least For me and a lot of other people is that There is a lot of different options in Terms of housing opportunities in a Variety of price ranges so for example In Sarasota we have a lot of HOA Communities and we also have a lot of Track home builders so we have houses on Acreage you know couple acres or we also Have Waterfront man Mansions you also Can find your modern condo you know your Downtown condo you can find vacation Rentals you can find historic homes Laurel Park in near downtown Sarasota is An amazing place it has 19 1920s houses That are just very cool to look at and Also live in and then we also have your Uh track home builder houses which are Probably on like 8,000 ft lots and these Are all your new construction houses That are being built currently in the Sarasota area and these are also for a Lot of people that are moving from out Of state into Sarasota that's pretty Much the main demographic that is buying These houses but at the end of the day There is a wide variety of different Housing options to choose from to fit Whatever lifestyle you are looking for And then the second Pro of living in Sarasota at least for me is going to be The Amazing Outdoor lifestyle that you Can live here so the benefits is that You know obviously we have no snow year Round which means for the most part we Can be in shorts and a t-shirt in Winter We can be in shorts and in t-shir in Summer we don't have to worry about Anything now in the summer we do have to Worry about rain coming in but that is Just rain showers that happen you know Every so often throughout the day but Overall sarasot has a great active you Know outdoor lifestyle right so we have The amazing 13 plus mile paved Legacy Trail that goes all the way from Venice To brington now and now they are adding A connector trail from Northport just Because of the huge growth that Northport has been seeing and then also We have amazing local farmers markets on A weekly basis several times per week so They're all they are all outdoor farmers Markets and I absolutely love going to Them as you get to see the local vendors Local produce and also local artists and Stuff like that so it's a very cool Thing to just at least go walk down cuz The one by downtown saroda is a very Cool one to check out and then finally Probably what everyone loves is walking The beaches so we are known for some of The best beaches of course we have Siesta Key Beach we have leok Key Beach We have Venice Beach and we have many Other different beaches that have this White sandy sugary Beach I think that You know these beaches are very nice um CS key to me is a little bit you know Gets a little bit crowded especially During the busy times of year that's why I like you know Noma Beach or Venice Beach as it is a little bit more quiet And that's kind of where more of the Locals go CS ke is more for the tourist Side of things but nonetheless watching The beaches walking the beaches I should Say um in the evening are just Absolutely amazing to watch the sunsets And you can't beat the sunset sure you Can have the sunrises on the east coast Of Florida but you can't beat the Sun Sunsets here in Southwest Florida and That's going to now bring us to our Third and final Pro of living in Sarasota and I would say it's going to Relate to all my foodie friends out There and that is with the Fantastic Culinary experiences that you can see Here in Sarasota we have about 1400 Different restaurants ranging anywhere From Italian Japanese you know Chinese Seafood barbecue Artisan pizzas you know Everything like that it's you have a Wide variety of different options to Check out and you know there's nothing Short of checking out as many Restaurants as you possibly can and What's cool is that downtown Sarasota Has these Food Tours going on so you can Sign up there's several different Companies that go do them and they're The Food Tours so you can go there and You can taste test several different Restaurants around downtown Sarasota you Can take a trail you can walk whatever It may be and you guys can go experience You know what you know Sarasota's Melting Pot of all their flavors are Like and I think it's a cool thing to Experience at least if you're new here To Sarasota so that kind of wraps up the Overall Pros now let's discuss talking About the cons here in Sarasota and to Kick it off is going to be depending on The time of day it may take you a little Bit longer to get to places than you Think and just because you know sasod is In such a prime location we are having a Lot of people that you know we have a Lot of Travelers that come north from Florida and then are also going south Into Naples just because we have a main Corridor I75 that will take you down There so that is the biggest thing is That we do deal with a lot of traffic in Sarasota now that everyone's population Is growing here in Southwest Florida you Know that's probably one of my least Favorite things that I you know really Like about Sarasota but once again it is All relative because if you're coming From the East Coast traffic here is a Lot less than the East Coast but coming From the Midwest myself traffic is a lot More so I guess it's all in personal Perspective of what you think but that Would be the biggest con I hear a lot of People talk about is just the overall Traffic in Sarasota now the next con is Going to be home prices so house prices In Sarasota are sitting at about $497,000 as an average house price right And the national average is about 12% Lower than that right now so it's Sitting at about 100 or 437,000 um Currently as the national average so you Know housing is a little bit more Expensive here in Sarasota but to go Back to the pros of it you know there Are a lot of different housing Opportunities in terms of what you're Looking for whether that be a condo you Know and a State size house acreage House um maybe you want to build with One of the track home builders there're Just a different variety of you know Places that you can look into but Realistically a new construction house Here in Sarasota is $600,000 and above And then if you're looking at like a Villa which is basically like a single Family duplex and that's what we call Them um here with these track home Builders and they're realistically you Know $450,000 and up they're very nice They're about they're less than 2,000 ft Three beds two baths sum are two beds Two bass as well but that's also a cool Option for a lot of people um it's more Popular with um people that are looking To retire and then we also have our Condos on the coast and these condos on The coast of Sarasota so near the water Are about $600,000 and up right and that is pretty Much the starting rate form and it goes Up from there but what's interesting is That in the future there is going to be A lot of different houses being built And a lot more affordable housing Options so in the future there's going To be about 4,000 additional Apartments Hotel rooms and condos coming up in the Sarasota as well just not single family Just because everything is moving Vertical just to fit as many people as Um just to grow with the demand of Sarasota and the last and final con of Living in Sarasota is going to be the Weather in the summer months so you hear This all the time you know it's hot Humid in Florida right you know at least When you are living on the coast of Florida you get at least this you you Know a Gulf Breeze or you get some sort Of Breeze right instead of being in the Middle of Florida but in in also in Sarasota you know it's not uncommon that We hit in the upper 90s like you know Usually it's only for a few weeks out of The mon out of the year but now this Past year we had it for you know I would Say about a good month and a half two Months um of 90° weather on a daily Basis where you know the heat index can Exceed about 110° on the hottest days of The year not meaning that it's going to Be that every day but just during the Summer months there are a few weeks that Do get a little bit hot which means you Know where the heat comes we also need To cool our houses a little bit more so That means that the utility costs are a Little bit higher in the summer months Compared to in the winter months like I Think our last air conditioning bill or AC Bill electricity I should say was About $250 last month um so that is just for Electricity and that was just because it Was in the summertime um and the the hot Weather that we had now we are sitting At about what time it's about 60° right Now it's sunny and it is a little bit Windy out but it is overall nice and it Is about 9:00 in the morning so now that We've talked about both the pros and Cons let's talk about the V the final Verdict of you know living here in Sarasota what you know do the pros Outweigh the cons or do the cons Outweigh the pros right so the biggest Thing to know is that you know Sarasota Is a very unique area and hard to come By right it's hard to find a coastal City that still has small town Vibes but Big city amenities right and it offers You you know it just offers you a lot of Different things that you know another Community like either north of us just Does not offer like we have Tampa north Of us but the population is just crazy Right now real estate's absolutely Ridiculous at the moment in terms of Pricing up there it's just not somewhere I would personally want to live I just Like the feel of a smaller community in Sara but you still get all the amenities That like let's just say Tampa has Except the hockey team you know Tampa Bay Lightning we don't have them but we Can always drive to there it's about an Hour drive from Sarasota to Tampa but Overall making the move it's been a Couple year it's been a few years since I've moved here um and I would say it's A very it was a very smart decision on My part I absolutely love Sarasota um And I I probably wouldn't trade it for a Lot of different cities in Florida I Just really like Sarasota in general and You meet you know there's a lot of great People it's a great Melting Pot and it's Kind of where a lot of people you know CEOs of companies you know large CEOs of Companies are buying either second Houses or they are moving down here as Well as their primary residents so it's Really cool to see the affluent Community here in sarasona you get a you Get a lot more opportunities than you Would in traditional cities so that kind Of
